It’s no secret that your BMW is a sophisticated and innovative vehicle, engineered for premium performance and designed for ultimate luxury. But even BMW vehicles require some routine maintenance to ensure you get the most out of your investment. But how often should you service a BMW? Washington Exotics answers this question in the following breakdown of the automaker’s suggested BMW maintenance schedule.

BMW Preventative Maintenance

Every 5,000 miles, BMW recommends some preventative services to help guarantee the continued performance and reliability of your vehicle in the DC Metro or wherever the road takes you. These services include:

  • Brake fluid check
  • Coolant check
  • Engine and cabin air filter inspection
  • Engine oil check
  • Front and rear brake inspection
  • Standard scope
  • Tire rotation
  • Vehicle check and inspection
  • Wiper blade inspection

BMW Maintenance Intervals

So, how often should you service a BMW? As you hit specific mileage milestones, the automaker recommends this BMW maintenance schedule:

At 10,000 Miles

  • Replace engine oil, oil filter, and coolant
  • Repeat every 10,000 miles

At 20,000 Miles

  • Inspect and replace fuel filters
  • Repeat every 20,000 miles

At 30,000 Miles

  • Replace brake fluid, and plan to replace it every 60,000 miles moving forward
  • For manual transmission vehicles, replace the transmission fluid every 30,000 miles

At 60,000 Miles

  • Replace the engine air filter and spark plugs
  • Replace brake pads and brake rotors if needed
  • Replace transmission fluid
  • Repeat all the above every 60,000 miles

At 90,000 Miles

  • Replace timing belt and hoses
  • Repeat every 90,000 miles

After 90,000 Miles

  • Follow the BMW maintenance schedule outlined above
  • Keep up with the preventative maintenance as detailed in the first section

Bear in mind that no special maintenance is required at 50,000 miles apart from those services performed every 5,000 or 10,000 miles. With that said, your New Vehicle Limited Warranty will expire at 50,000 miles or four years, so plan accordingly for maintenance, repairs, and parts.
